Getting ready for Padstow…

Very much looking forward to Bolla Tay’s annual design fair in Padstow.  Just finishing off some final stitching before packing it all up ready for the show.

This year we will be joined by some fabulous designer-makers –  Damian Miles, Really Big Bubbles and Paper Pamela…  Check out their websites for a sneak preview and hopefully we’ll see you there.

Moorland Garden Fête

Once again the first part of the year has flown by and it has been far too long since I’ve posted any news, so it’s nice to let you know about a forthcoming fayre.

We’re looking forward to being at the Moorland Garden Hotel, Yelverton on Monday 1st May.  Always such a great day out at a really beautiful location, so if you’re in the area, come and enjoy all that the day has to offer….

A fab time in Padstow….

Thanks to everyone who came to see us at our Bolla Tay Design Fair in Padstow, we had a really great time.  There were some early starts, late finishes and a lot of hard work beforehand, but all made worthwhile as we really enjoyed meeting everyone, talking about our designs and products and enjoying a pasty or two! Both myself and Alice had a record-breaking show this year! We have all our lovely new customers, and precious returning customers to thank for this.  So thank you all!

We love meeting people who appreciate our handbags and we hope all our customers are enjoying using their new purchases. Many of you have already been in touch to say that you are getting admiring comments, glances and enquiries; this makes us very happy and this is why we put in all the effort.

We love hearing from customers, so if you’ve enjoyed your Handmade by Ellie experience, please get in touch and let us know.  We hope you have a lovely summer and hope to hear from you soon.

Design Fair in Padstow….

May news….

We had a great time at the Moorland show a few weeks ago, thanks to all the people who came along.  Good to see a customer from the last show enjoying using her bag!

I had a new design in some new fabrics on show, these will be added to my shop soon.

Earlier this year I had a couple of orders from two different customers for the same design of bag.  They both wanted a Rippon and had completely different fabric choices.  It was lovely seeing what they chose and how different they were (one even matched their house décor and windowsill tiles, which is fantastic!).  The orange and black Rippon was the first time I’ve been asked for one colourway one side and the reverse on the other side, but a great way to get two looks for the price of one!

Now I’m looking forward to getting on with using this gorgeous fabric for a new order….

Spring news…..

It is has been a looooong time since I’ve updated my blog. The first few months of this year have whizzed by in a midst of decorating, pattern drawing and commissions and it’s suddenly approaching the end of April before I’ve posted any news.

I will post photos soon of some recent orders and creations, but in the meantime I’m working towards the next fair, which is at the beautiful Moorland Garden Hotel in Yelverton.  Hopefully see you there……

Also, if you haven’t already seen, do check out what illustrator, and fellow member of the Bolla Tay Collective, Alice Povey has been up to recently –  see Alice Povey on Facebook and/or Alice Povey’s blog; her new illustrations are FABULOUS!

As well as writing about projects I’ve been working on, I like to include other people/artists/creations which I think are brilliant and inspiring…

Katherine Richmond is an artist who uses books to create  jewellery pieces, using either the pages or the covers as the centrepiece.  I recently saw her work at a design fair, and out of the hundreds (and hundreds!) of stalls there, her work stayed with me and I kept thinking about the beautiful pieces she creates.  She designs a range of jewellery including brooches, necklaces, pendants and earrings. Please click on the links above and have a look at her stunning creations and brilliant ideas.

About Katherine Richmond –

Katherine’s professional training took place at the University of Central England’s School of Jewellery, in Birmingham where she graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing. During her studies Katherine was awarded a Precious Metal Bursary from the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, and won first prize for the George Jackson Travel Award.

Following her degree Katherine set-up her own business in January 2005 and began producing bespoke silver and gold gifts for the sports and corporate sector, specifically limited edition pieces, player awards, and one-off commissions.

In September 2008 Katherine returned to university to study a Masters degree in Jewellery, Silver and related products, at Birmingham City University, and in September 2009 graduated with an MA Distinction. Katherine’s work now sits on the boundary between fine art and jewellery and lends itself well to exhibition within contemporary craft and jewellery galleries, and museums.

Katherine’s current work explores the fragile relationship between people and objects, and the tensions between control and disorder. She uses books to create wearable pieces that question traditional values associated to the permanence of our material surroundings, embracing the beauty of the imperfect and incomplete. Katherine employs elements of chance into her making process making each piece completely unique.

For more information on Katherine’s work, please visit her website.

Bolla Tay Design Fair

I’ve just come back from the most amazing few days in sunny Padstow, having been involved with my first Bolla Tay Design Fair.  It was wonderful to meet so many new customers and thanks to those who stopped by to say hello and sign up to my blog.  To all the new “Handmade by Ellie” owners, I hope your bags bring you as much pleasure in using them as they did for me making them….

I’ve also been making a few changes to my website; I now have a permanent Home page and my blog is the final tab on the menu bar.
