Welcome to Handmade by Ellie. I specialise in making and designing bespoke handbags using quality fabrics; whether it’s a large weekend bag, an everyday shoulder bag or an elegant evening clutch bag, there is something for every occasion. You can read about my latest news, creations and inspirations on my blog, and sign up for updates which will be emailed to you each time I post something new.
I started sewing when I was young, inspired by one of the most creative ladies in the world, my Grandmother. I made my first bag, when I was 10, and after 12 years in the creative wilderness I was given what ranks as one of my four all time greatest presents – my sewing machine… and I haven’t stopped sewing since. Once I’d made my first bag, I couldn’t stop.
About the bags
I love making handbags and am passionate about creating quality items with gorgeous fabrics. The outer fabric of every bag is interlined with the best quality interlining, a layer of quilting fabric (or wadding), backed by cotton is then sewn in. There are four layers of fabric to the outer bag before the lining is added (for some designs the lining is also backed with interlining for extra strength). These extra layers give the bags that sumptuous quilted feel, as well as making them stronger than your average handbag, and help them retain their shape. All seams are either double or triple stitched, with an additional support seam, for extra strength.
I take real pride in creating quality handbags which last. A bag not only has to look great, but it has to feel special too. I enjoy working with different fabrics and love seeing what fabrics and patterns people decide on when choosing their custom-made bag. I take orders for bespoke handbags; prices vary depending on style, fabric choices and the time it takes to make them.
